I remember when I was a child, a friend of my father gave me a job to rake his leaves. He was going to pay me $20.00 for my service, which in those days was a great deal of money, especially for a kid (giving away my age).
When I got to his house, I started raking in a corner of a huge yard with 4 humongous oak trees and seemingly a trillion leaves. I had to take about 7 swipes with the rake in one spot just to see the grass. It was cold outside, my hands and feet were freezing, my nose was running, I was completely miserable out there. I went back the next day and whatever progress I made the day before was completely non existent!
The third day, I didn’t show up at all. Neither did i show up on the fourth day. Finally, my dad’s friend called me and said, “Son, there’s another young man here who wants to rake my leaves, do you want to finish the job or should I give the job to him.” I replied, “Sir, you can give the job to him, that’s okay.”
That brief conversation played back in my mind many times over the years and even haunted me. The fact that I had a chance to do something seemingly impossible and I QUIT, drove me insane! After that day, I never quit anything in my life. There have been times I had to concede defeat, Some things have taken me longer to accomplish but I never quit.
In life, you can never quit. You may get knocked down, you may have to face insurmountable challenges, the deck may be stacked against you, but no matter what, never give up on your dreams, your goals, your aspirations, your life, or your passion! You defy the impossible every time you wake up in the morning. You defy the impossible every time you make it through another day. You defy the odds every time you see a birthday, pay your bills at the end of the month, forgive someone who did you wrong. You defy the impossible DAILY!! Don’t let the leaves of this life intimidate you. How do you rake a yard with trillions of leaves? One swipe at a time! Learn from my mistake and NEVER GIVE UP!!
